Waukesha North Coaching Staff
Varsity Head Coach
Greg Polkowski wrapped up the 2013-2014 season and his 2nd as Head Coach of the Northstars by increasing the program’s overall and conference win totals from the season before. Along the way the Northstars picked up signature victories over Waukesha West and Sheboygan North. Before joining the Northstars, Polkowski was part of the Brookfield Central Coaching staff, and coached numerous youth teams in the city of Milwaukee where he was named "Milwaukee Recreation Coach of the Year" in 2012. Prior to that Polkowski completed his Master's Degree in Education and was an assistant coach at Carroll University where he helped the Pioneers achieve a 28-20 record and a Conference Tournament Championship appearance from 2009-2011. Polkowski began his coaching career as an assistant coach at UW-Superior from 2008-2009. As a player he played at UW-Superior from 2003-2008 where he also earned his Undergraduate Degree in Physical Education. In 2008 Polkowski was named UW-Superior’s Mertz Mortorelli award winner along with being named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Varsity Assistant Coach
Khalif El-Amin joins the Northstars this year and will serve as the varsity assistant coach. Prior to joining the Northstars Coach El-Amin served as the varsity assistant at Homestead High School for the 2012-2013 season, and at Milwaukee Rufus King High School for the 2011-2012 season where he helped the Generals reach the 2012 Division 1 State Championship. Coach El-Amin has also been a coach with the AAU program Playground Elite. Prior to coaching El-Amin played at UW-Stevens Point from 2005-2009 and was named a First Team All-Conference selection his senior year, and to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team his junior year. El-Amin attended and played High School Basketball at Milwaukee Rufus King High School where he helped lead them to 2003 & 2004 Division 1 State Championships. In addition El-Amin was named Milwaukee City Conference Student-Athlete of the year his senior year.
Head JV Coach / Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Wuest returns to the Northstars again this year after being the Head Freshman Coach during the 2012-2013 season. Coach Wuest will take over as Head JV Coach this season along with being a Varsity Assistant Coach. Prior to coming to Waukesha North, Coach Wuest was a Varsity Assistant at Kenosha Indian Trails High School for two years, and before that was an assistant at Fond du Lac High School for three years. Prior to Coach Wuest’s coaching career he played collegiately at Marian University from 2004-2008. Coach Wuest attended Fond du Lac High School where he helped lead the Cardinals to two State Tournament appearances which included a trip to the 2003 Division 1 State Semi-Finals his senior year while also being named an all-conference selection, and a trip to the 2002 Division 1 State Championship during his junior year.
Head Freshman Coach / Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Zimdars joins Waukesha North this year as the program’s Head Freshman Coach and will also serve as a Varsity Assistant Coach. Coach Zimdars additionally works as an English Teacher at Waukesha North High School. Prior to coming to Waukesha North Coach Zimdars was the Head Coach for the 5th-6th Grade Boys Basketball Team at Risen Savior Lutheran from 2010-2013, and was an Assistant at Atonement Lutheran for the 7th-8th Grade Boys Team from 2007-2009 and helped lead them to a Lutheran Grade School State Championship. Coach Zimdars played both Basketball and Baseball at Lakeside Lutheran High School and went on to graduate from Wisconsin Lutheran College.
